1996 Volvo 850 Windshield Wiper Problem 850

Help...

The driver side front windshield wiper lifts off the window as it moves from right to left. It only clears about half of the window before lifting on the glass by just enough not to function. As it travels back left to right it touches the glass again in the middle of its motion.

I was advised to simply bend the arm a bit (toward the windshield) so that it has more pressure on the window. That does not seem to fix the problem.

Any ideas?

    hi,
    quick way is to bend the arm towards the screen...
    better way is to file down the "stops" for the arm pivot so that it can travel further towards the screen.... this is very common, look at bay13's website it shows you step by step with pictures how to do this.

      Thanks for the quick response. I went to Bay 13 and only saw the posting with the single picture of the wiper where they say to just push down hard and re-bend it.

      Where is the part where you describe the 'filing'?

        Check out this posting for the part that needs filing. This was the only permanent fix for the wiper lifting problem. Bending the arm only helped my problem temporarily. Filing down with a Dremel tool fixed the problem.

        I am interested in this too because my wiper misses the upper portion drivers side/corner. My indy suggested I buy a new arm for $50.00. No thanks. . .
