R & R Electronic Throttle Unit V70-XC70 1999

I want to remove the ECM unit from my '99 V70 in order to give it a good cleaning after 90K miles. It does not look like the easiest thing to remove and reinstall. I'd appreciate any hints on how best to do it from someone who has already experienced (the pain of) this operation. I'm thinking it might be best to leave the inlet pipe attached until the unit is unbolted from the intake manifold and then disconnect it. The reverse procedure would be used when reinstalling it. I don't think it is possible to get both arms up in there at the same time to hold the unit in place while laying under the car. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This is a doddle....

Remove the cold air intake to the air filter first (just clips in)

Remove the plastic inlet hose (remember to disconnect all the sensors first). This is done by loosening the 2 hoseclips (one each end) that secure it.

Its a tight fit to get out but it will go with a bit of careful juggling.

Now remove the connector to the ECM and with a 1/4" drive with a 10mm socket undo the 4 bolts securing the TCM to the inlet manifold. You'll have to do this by touch but its not hard.
When undoing the last one be careful as its easy to drop it!

Carefully remove the TCM by taking it towards the LHS of the car and then up past the end of the inlet manifold.

Reassembly is the opposite. Be very careful to get the plastic inlet trunking on properly as if yyou don't manifold pressure will just pop it back off again (mine did!).

Should take less than 20 minutes to remove and refit.....

Have fun

Alastair

You need to remove engine cooling fan assy. THE INLET pipe must be removed to acess all 4 screws. If this is a turbo car clean the PCV fitting while the ETM is off . Email me if you have questions experttech2001@yahoo.com
