Where is the Fuel hatch latch control? 850 1993

I'm the second owner of this car, so that's why this question might come across as a bit ignorant.
As i was cleaning the drain tubes in the trunk i discovered that the fuel hatch has a remote control box that should enable the driver to unlock the fuel door from inside the car. Until now, the fuel attendant or I would simply pull the fuel door open from the outside because it is not locked shut. So now that i know that the fuel hatch has a latch which essentially locks the fuel hatch closed, i'd like to use it. The trouble is that i can't find any type of control inside of the car that would enable me to pop the fuel door open when the latch is engaged. Where is the control? Please help clear my confusion. Thanks.

    On my '95, it is controlled via the power door locks. If the doors are locked, so too is the fuel door. The only thing you can do in the trunk is manually pull the wire to unlock it. Mine has become stuck in the past, so I've had to pull the wire loop to unlock.

    There is a little motor in there pushing/pulling the wire to lock/unlock the door. If you're thinking that the fuel door pops out by itself, well, it doesn't. At least on the '95. Your '93 may be different.

    Your fuel door is locked whenever the doors are locked, and unlocked when the doors are unlocked. The fuel door is controlled through the central locking system. There is no separate control.

      That's pretty cool! That makes sense (good job Volvo!) and explains why I never knew the fuel door had a lock or control until I pulled the car apart. I have never tried to open the fuel door while the car was locked. Thank you for clearing my confusion.

      My favorite was when my Dad went to gas up his '96 for the first time. He locked it, paid for the gas, then couldn't open the flap. Drove home pissed, read the manual, and drove back to the gas station red-faced.
