erratic ABS trouble light V70-XC70 1998

I have experienced an erratic appearance of the ABS dash light. It comes and goes with no noticeable affect on braking. Sometimes just restarting the car puts the light out. I have down loaded trouble codes and have not received any ABS codes. Any experience out there?

erratic ABS trouble light V70-XC70 1998

All the ABS control units (Installed on 96 and newer 850 and 70 series) will eventually fail after they reach 65,000 miles or 5 years. The average is 85,000 miles and/or 6 years for failures. The one on my 98 V70 failed at 85,000 miles in 2002, the one on my 96 850 failed at 96,000 miles this year.

The erratic ABS light and/or no trouble codes is an indication of a defective ABS unit.
A dealer will charge about $120.00 to diagnose the problem and tell you that you need a new ABS control unit.

Having said that. Here is an alternative to correcting the problem for good.
