Best C70 Coupe to Buy C70

Hello,

I own a 96 850 Wagon, and 99 S70. I formally owned a 99 V70R. I am looking to get a C70 Coupe. Is there any particular years that are better than others? What years did they offer the HP turbo or LP turbo?? All advice appreciated.

I have a 98 C70 T5M, the HPT. It has about 66,000 miles and I bought it used. I haven't had any real problems with it, the rear side windows used to leak and were replaced under a recall. The pass seat spring from the pwr assist came off and was fixed as well. I like the manual as it keeps the turbo on boost more than the auto. If you want an auto, I think the LPT is the way to go, and then get the IPD ecu upgrade. I have considered it for my car too, but the cost is still too much for me to take the plunge. I only drive it 3 seasons a year and use my 855 for winter and commuting duties.

I like the look and color of my C70 - coral red metallic I believe. Some colors look better than others. I also have the special 2-tone interior, 2 shades of beige which looks great. The seat leather is very soft and may actually not be as durable as the 855 leather. You can always buy the later headlights, tailights and grille to upgrade a C70 to like new appearance, if you want to. I would avoid the throttle by wire models until they have more time in use, let Volvo test them out on someone else. I find the TBW units to be too touchy in general and hard to modulate. I like mechanical linkages I guess.

I have a '98 C70 HPT with 88k. I have been fortunate and it has been very reliable and I do most of the maintenance on it. My sister has a '00 C70 LPT and just yesterday she had the 'ETM' electronic throttle module replaced to a tune of $850.00. This is a drive by wire unit. The 'ETM's' were replaced in the '02 Volvos with Bosch modules. She also had a window regulator replaced by the dealer way past the warranty at n/c.
My Dad just recently bought a '99 S70-his '93 850 GLT was totaled two months ago by someone that made a left turn right in front of him.
Now, I do all the regular maintenance on all three vehicles since the engines are almost identical.
The C70's look great and you don't see to many of them on the road. All three of us are very happy with the Volvos.
