Hi,
It took a while but I finally diagnosed my problem. Same as your problem. I added a can of r134a. The system was cycling every 5 seconds until it finally gave up and the compressor stayed on all of the time and I got warm air.
I added one can of r134a and it is like a fridge! Vent temp is 45 degrees, just like specs say.
Try it.

Paul,
We are having a Florida day in MN. 85+ in the shade with dew point above 70. Guess what, my AC started to blow warm air. When I parked at the local ice arena (60 inside) I let the car idle. Compressor turning 100% of the time, no cycling. The high pressure side was cold, the low pressure was hot at the firewall. There was almost a waterfall coming out from the bottom of the car. I looked for about 15 minutes, finding nothing wrong, closed the hod and went to watch my daughter practice and cool off.
On the trip home, the AC stared to work and then began warming up. Darn! So I down shifted to 2 and got the revs up to 3k. If I kept the revs above 2500, the AC worked again cooling the car off. I haven't been able to check the pressure on the low side yet.
Try keeping the car's rpm up on very hot humid days when you are only going 30-40mph.

If air starts out cold, I would assume that system works (gas, compressor, etc.

I had the same problem. This is a clutch cycling system.Lots of wear on the clutch. You can check the air gap...(space between the clutch surface and the mating surface) with a feeler guage. Ideally .020 inch.. Mine was .049 until I replaced it.

How long does the compressor run before it stops? The Keys can be terribly humid this time of year, could it be that you are over charged and the system is freezing up with ice? Does water puddle up in your driveway when you stop, or does it come out after a while? Are you recycling the inside air or getting fresh air through the dash?

Guess we don't have enough to go on...

If the water comes out on the driveway after a while is that considered a unit that is freezing?

When my wife pulls into the driveway, it looks like there is a drop of water every inch or two all the way up the drive. If it is blocked with ice, I wouldn't expect any water to come out for a while, until it melts.
If it is a clutch problem, it is easy enough to verify. When the air starts to blow warm, stop the car and see if the compressor is cycling every 20 seconds or so. If it is still cycling, fix the clutch. If the compressor is not engaging at all, suspect ice.

Well ..I guess things are ok. I get a small puddle after running with the air on and parking the car. It really freaked me out the first time.. I thought something was broken.

Thanks
