Tires V70-XC70

Hi, I am shopping for all seasons for a 1999 V70 XC. It does see snow in winter. Any recommendations? I have the Bridgestone RE950's on my S40 and they are nice but not the best in snow...any recommendations? ContiExtremeContacts ok? I am looking at tirerack. Thanks.

I will be on my 3rd set of Mich MXV4+'s when I get my car out of the shop for a problem caused by the tire shop. These tires have very good traction in snow and I get about 35k miles on them.

If your car sees snow in the winter you should get a set of real winter tires. A set of second-hand steel rims is dirt cheap and all tires wear out eventually so you're talking about minimal extra costs.

I now live in The Netherlands where we hardly see any snow. A few years ago I put some Nokian NRWs on the 940 that I was then driving. They were sold as all-season tires in North America and as winter tires in Europe. Go figure... Anyway they were great throughout the year and are now under the 745 wifemobile. The Nokian NRW has since been superseded by a new tire which I presume is even better. I highly recommend the NRW but again, a true winter tire is likely better for what you do.

No I don't really need winters, in the XC last winter was not a struggle at all. Just looking for new all seasons (besides, the car isn't really mine so even if i were convinced it wouldn't happen)

Anyone have any experience with the Donlop SP Sport 5000 or the Yokohama AVS dB S2?

Not that it matters or that I want to change anyone's mind, but the issue is not that it is a struggle to move forward, but rather how well you brake. AWD does not change the laws of physics and will in fact, all other things being equal, due to its additional weight, require more space to stop.

That is what winter tires are all about.

I have the same model year and just put on my third set of tires. My last set I used RE950's and only got about 35k miles out of them. The RE950's handled much better than the OEM Continental's but I've grown tired of the bumpier ride and wanted some comfort back. This time I'm using Bridgestone Turanza LS-H. The ride is less harsh, quieter than the RE's and they've handled really well in wet/dry pavement - much better than when I had OEM Conti's. Can't tell you much about snow but I probably only take it to the snow 1 week per year.
