Friendly tip for CV joints V70-XC70

In reading a few posts I have noticed that people have replaced CV joints/boots. Since 1994, I have been liberally spraying my CV joints with Armorall. Knock on wood, I have never had a CV joint fail on either my Audis or Volvos. I think the armoral helps keep the rubber pliable and when you blast the joints with it it helps knock out dirt etc.

I do this at least once a month but usually once a week.

Regards,

John.

Friendly tip for CV joints V70-XC70 1999

I used silicone spray regularly on the boots and various rubber bushings on my 1981 BMW 320i, and I did not have any rubber problems for about 15 years. Finally the ozone and temperature extremes exacted their toll. Recently I read in the new BMW owners' manuals to not use silicone spray, but I'm not sure why silicone is supposed to be bad. There are real expensive rubber dressings from Wurth and other companies, but I don't know where to buy them. In retrospect, I think cleaning the rubber parts with soap and water may have been the best preservarive.
