Initial rev up from cold 850

Anybody tell me why when I first start the car up from cold it revs to about 1500-2000 rpm?, it only stays at these levels for a couple of seconds. I don't touch the accelerator at all but it still does it, once the car is warm it will just start normaly. This doesn't always happen but mostly it does!, I'm also worried about the damage that could be being done when it revs like this straight from startup with little or no oil circulation, as there is usually a little tingle of sound just as it fires up, kinda like the old tappet noise, is this perhaps the hydraulic tappets pumping up from cold?

My 95 854T does the same thing. This first happened after I changed the oil to synthetic. I had attributed it to the extra light oil, 0W40, or the oil filter I got from FCP letting the oil drain into the pan. It's due for a change any day now and I will let you know what happens after I change the oil.
Today it's too cold in the garage (15F outside).

Cars have had a fast idle at cold start for about 50 years. It overcomes friction from cold oil and helps warm up quicker. In the old days there was a thermally operated cam on the throttle shaft which kept it open.

This will happen with a throttlebody that hasn't been cleaned

My 850 is no different and the reason for "why?" is the computer. It is simply doing it's job in getting the engine and emissions to operating temperature as quickly as possible. I just read an article about the XC90 V8 which has four catalytic convertors. The engineers have tweaked the Yamaha engine to idle higher at cold start to help the convertors do their job quicker. The first few seconds of any start up are the worst in terms of bad emissions. Using Synthetic oil and well maintaining you engine helps keep up with this demand.
