high revving on coldstart 850 1995

HI,
My wife`s 850 revs about 2000 RPM on cold start, we can "kick" it down to 900 but I`d like to know the reason that it`s doing this. BTW, the MAF was just recently replaced; don`t know if this might be related.
Ideas?

Hi,

Mine (95 T5) does it too, although it depends on the outside temperature, if it's really cold then it starts, revs to 1500-2000 for a few seconds, then drops to normal tick-over speed, other times when it's warmer, like this morning 11C it starts, revs a bit (only just above tick-over) but only for a second, then drops to tick-over.

It's just the ECU and all that other stuff sorting things out, it needs a rush of air to get things moving, the sensors need some time to work-out what is going on outside, then the ecu sorts things out and makes it run sweet.. it's normal, and as far as I can work out nothing to worry about. unless you have a sensor gone then things get out of sync.
