Ball Joint 850

I have to replace the ball joint on my 850.... which I am going to do, however I have a general curiousty question. What actually happens to my car if I do not. I have not noticed any play in the car at all.

Look at the news about Dodge recalling 600,000 trucks to replace balljoints. Rollovers and at the very least fender damage.

The joint separates causing the wheel to fall off. You loose steering control and crash. Get it replaced.

It happened to me years ago with my 1982 Ford Granada (need I say it was a real POS). The front right ball joint broke, causing the vehicle to collapse onto the wheel. It's like locking up the brake on a single wheel. All this happened in heavy rush our traffic on I-94 in a bad area of Detroit (a bad area among the bad areas). Luckily, I was traveling in the right lane and the car pulled onto the emergency lane/shoulder all by itself. Nothing happened, although it could have been ugly.
Getting out of the car unarmed and looking for a public phone to call AAA was the most dangerous part of the day though...
