850 CV shaft stuck in tranny please help! 850

1994 Volvo 854 Turbo, Auto.

I cant get the passanger side CV shaft out- I yanked and yanked and the inner shaft broke where the cv boot attaches (the boot and "u-joint" came out) , so now I have the cup end that the boot attaches to stuck in the tranny.

Whats the proper way to take out a CV shaft? This one sure seems stuck, its freezing cold out and need to finish this today so any help would be greatly appriciated!

Do I need to rotate it? Unlock it somehow? Thanks a million guys.

-John

I saw a posting that a guy used the flat end of the Volvo lug nut tool to tap between the inner joint and the transmission to remove the axle

Hope this help

Ken thanks for the help!

I went back out and this time used a flashlight to check things out better and low and behold that shaft is very long, and has a carrier bearing on the shaft supported by a clamp. 2 bolts later the whole thing dropped out and its all back together!

Thanks again for the fast reply, again this was the passanger side shaft and under low lighting one wouldnt really think about it, hope this helps someone in the future.
