My old pnp would give me the error every couple of months so I decided to change it. I didnt have the alignment tool but otherwise followed bay13 instructions. The job itself was quite easy.
I read before I did the job that you can put it in reverse and wait for the reverse light and move the switch back and forth. Well moving the switch gave me the reverse light the whole time.
The car runs fine but my question is. If its out abit can it eventually ruin something? The whole switch only moves maybe 1/4 inch.

I've done 2 PNP's, neither with the tool and I dont think you'll
eventually ruin something but here's below how to adjust it:
PNP installed, in neutral, but not fully tightened...
OK, there are 2 flats machined on the shaft (that comes out
of the tranny, & goes through the PNP) Line up the mark on
the housing directly in-between the 2 flats by rotating the PNP.
I held 2-6" steel rules on the shaft's flats to make it more visible...
(this is hard to put into words, but real easy to do) Then tighten
down the PNP and your done! Make double sure the PNP switch stayed
in neutral! Verify by moving the selector to reverse (with the key on)
and making sure the back-up lights come on.

Thanks for the info. I'll check to see if directly in between the flats.
I did install it in the neutral position. I check for the reverse light by hooking the battery back up. Then torqued it all down. All the gears on the gear shift work no problem.
