pet barrier for volvo 850 850 1996

Hi everyone-

My wife and I are about to adopt a baby so we are trying to get everything in order. I have a '96 850 wagon and two dogs. I need some advice on a good pet barrier. I saw that IPD has one for $70. The back seats also have the ability to host a pet/cargo screen that rolls up, but I'm not sure where to purchase one of those. Any advice will help.

Thanks.

As a safety precaution, the ONLY barrier that will properly protect your kids
or yourself against a high velocity impact of your pet(s) to the back of your heads is the factory metal gate ad the head rests. The mesh screen will allow any object to propel itself into the passenger areas on impact. The bigger your dog(s), the greater the need for protection.

One big advantage to the Volvo screen is that it works whether the back seat is up or down.

Combine this with self-storage and you have a winner.

    From dealer, quite expensive though.

I found a used Volvo OEM pet gate for my 850 wagon on IPD or Brickboard classifieds for $50. The mounting kit is another $65 or so. The ones that are held in place by pressure (IPD, universal, PetSmart, Petco) will not work if you have a rowdy or big dog. My weim knocked ours down on the kids a few times. The factory one is a great investment. You don't want that steel thing falling down on your kids heads--especially a baby or toddler. In short, a three hundred dollars is a small price to pay for the piece of mind you get.
