I have a 98 V70 XC with a cracked button on the shifter knob. It is an automatic trans. It is causing the trans not to be allowed to go into park and be able to remove the keys. I have been able to pry it over some to release the button is a major pain to do quite often. Does anyone have some insight on the removal and replacement of the button? Hopefully without shifter removal. Thanks

You have to replace the knob. Pry the boot downward about 1/2", then pull up sharply and the whole knob comes off. Then simply pop the new knob on till it snaps in place, and slip the boot back up.

The shifter has to be replaced as a unit.
