I have checked the FAQs and done a forum search on how to reset the service light and there seem to be a conflict of opinions on how to do it..... is the following method correct?

1) turn ignition switch to position 1

2) press and hold trip meter reset button (trip meter 1)

3) turn ignition switch to position 2 , while holding down trip meter

4) continue holding trip meter down for approx. 10 seconds until service light flashes

5) after service light flashes release trip meter button

6) turn ignition switch off

Is this right or am I missing something?

hi,
there are different ways depending on the year....
on some you hold down the trip button until the warning triangle in the dash starts flashing then you have 4 seconds to let the trip button go.
on others you hold down the trip button unitl the beeping stops and the value in the trip counter dsiplay returns FROM zero TO its previous value then you have four seconds to let the trip button go.
it was only the older models that had a service light that you could wait until it was flashing to reset SRI.
note...on early s80's you cant reset SRI unless at a dealer.
