The vehicle has 100,000 miles on it. I have experience with NA engines where the crankcase breather hoses, flame trap, throttle body, become dirty/clogged. I figured that the plumbing for this car could at least be checked for proper operation. However the Turbo uses different components than the flame trap and the throttle body is motor driven instead of throttle cable driven. I like having quality instructions when tackling a project. I certainly would not want to ruin an expensive part.
So far I have learned: (1) that the motor part of the Electronic Throttle is a weak link in the car. Cleaning the throttle bore itself will not help the design flaw in the motor; (2) If I attempt to clean the throttle body, I probably should remove it from the car, and use a new gasket to reinstall it; (3) Some of the old carburetor cleaners can be harmful to the O2 sensors or catalytic converters (I forget which), so I need to be careful to use the right throttle body cleaner.
But I still haven't found any real instructions. I will have to purchase a copy of VADIS soon, as I hope to keep the car and service it myself.
