Recirculation Switch is not working? Please help!!! 850 1995

Just bought a used 850.

I drove behind an old diesel truck today. With my baby in the car, I tried to turn on the recirculation switch so that the bad air will not get into the car. It seems like it doesn't do anything. I already noticed that the yellow light is still on (but not very bright) when the switch is off. When turn on the switch the light is brighter, but the out side air still flow into the car at the same rate.

Should I try to change the switch? Is it easy to access? Where can I find the part? (part#?). If the switch is not broken, it could be the motor that control the vent. Is it easy to access and change the motor?

Please help! I like the fresh air in California. But not behind the bad diesel truck, especially with my baby on board. Thanks in advance!

First, go to FCPGroton.com and order yourself a cabin air filter and holder/adapter. It gets installed in the engine bay, under the plastic cover just below the wipers. That will get rid of all particulates and keep dirt off the blower fan.

Before you tear the switch out of the car, check the computer codes for problems with the vents. They will be stored and let you know what is wrong.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I have ordered the pollen filter and the retainer already (95' 850 doesn't have one). It's on the way.

I am pretty sure that the recir doesn't work. I don't hear any sound when hitting the botton. Plus, the air flow rates are the same on the free way (on or off). I got a suggestion from bay13 board to remove the glove box and check the "recert" arm to see if it moves at all.

I might try to check the switch first. Any instructions, I appreciate it!

sometimes the plastic elbow connecting the rod to the actuator just behind the glove box falls off. If you take the glove box out and look in you can see it right on top of the evaporator housing. push it back on the actuator and put a small dollop of silicone sealer to hold it on.
