Most commonly needed torx?

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a S70 in the near future and I need a little help. I'm an avid Craftsman tool fan, but I can't seem to find any torx sockets that they make. Can someone let me know what are the most commonly needed torx sizes that I am going to need, and where I might find them. Also, are there any other specialty tools that I might need as I move forward with my shade-tree mechanic'ing? Thanks in advance for all comments!

That would be an Torx socket E05 to remove the ABS module, if you get a car with that problem, and a E14 socket for the hubs.

And all conceivable internal Torx bits, up to and including T45 (or was it T50?) to adjust the emergency brake cable.

I bought a combination torx set at sears. The fold up type which will get you every where except the plastic clamshell cover around the steering wheel. One tool, from T40 to t5.

I'd say the T-25 and T-30 are most often used.

All I have needed to work on my '98 S70 and before that 850:

    - rachet and extension
    - 6 piece torx set includes T10,15,20,25,27,30 (was $8 at Kragen)
    - spark plug socket
    - small set of metric sockets
    - normal array of screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable wrenches but hardly ever need them

    That's it!

On these sidewinder engines with no room to do anything, a couple pair of loooooong needle nose pliars will make your life easier. Get the ones that are about a foot oir so long, one pair with a straight jaws and one angled.

So what is the naming convention for the torx bits? I've seen some that were T20, T25, etc., and then some that were E5, E10, etc. I'm just a little confused and I want to make sure I'm getting the correct tools. Thanks in advance!

I think what you found is 'external' torx vs. regular torx.
External torx (i.e. E10) would be a female socket, and just plain 'torx' (i.e. T25) would be a male driver (which could be in the shape of a screwdriver or a socket w/ a driver tip).
I hope this makes sense. A picture is worth more than these 50 words!
