I am on the second set of lens covers for the rear lights on my '96 850 wagon. These have been on the car for about a year now and already are crazed and in poor condition. It made really p....d off yeasterday when parked next to a newish V70 wagon to see the beautiful glass lenses. Why Volvo put such cheap rubbish on the 850's beats me. (I should keep in mind, I suppose, how Volvo cheapened their whole image with the 850's, when I compare my 850 to my wif'e 940.)
Does anyone know how, a) to clean up these lenses, and b) how to stop them crazing in the Florida sun?

    I use "Future" acrylic floor wax. Lasts for a couple of months before
    hazing.

    Maybe botox?

    Well, I've read somewhere that the V70 upper rear lenses will fit on an 850. This was the experience of one 850 owner and I don't recall where I read it months ago.
    It would be great to know if someone could verify for a fact it is possible.

    In the meantime, I'm on my 2nd set, too. I'm using a plastic protectant (Plexus) after each car wash. (And any tire dressing or 'Future' floor finish will make them look glossy-new...temporarily).

      Someone over on swedespeed.com said you can get the V70 lenses cheap on e-bay. However, there is one slight mod that has to be done--cannot recall the exacts. Do a search over there. I think the poster was Kaizai. He has (had) a black R wagon. Good luck! (I have a coupla 850 wagons; I just learned to live with it as the rest of the cars is (are?) sooooo shiny!)

        Not really. Particularly not on the upper lenses.

        I have been watching eBay for a while.

        Lenses have not been coming up for a long time on V70s.
        850s used are there from time to time.

        Last year, there were many more - same thing with seats.
        This year, there has been almost none.


        VolvWorld has the 850 uppers new, but even they do not have the V70 uppers.

        Here are a couple of Salvage Yards. If you want a solution and want it now, you might find V70s there.
