Alarm Activation Verification 850

I just learned recently that there is an option to turn on an alarm activation "verification", via flashing turn signals and a "hoot" of the alarm. On my 850 you simply hear the doors locking/unlocking.

Do the people with the "verification" activated like this feature, or does the "hoot" get annoying?

It seems that it depends on country configuration. As I can see in your posts, In USA hoot confirmation is not usual. Here in Europe, at last in Spain, factory settings include flashing turn signals and hoot.

850's have basically two kind of alarm systems. The mine includes a module in the windshield frame (triangular shaped), driver side, with the typical red flashing led, and two buttons. I dont know if this is the system extended in USA.

I am sure that through those buttons and with certain sequence is possible configure the desired lock/unlock confirmation settings, (avoiding the expensive dealer bill).

I still havenīt found the manual or the method. I continue seeking. I will be grateful if anybody has the solution.

Regards from Spain.

(Sorry by my poor english)

Your English is a lot better than my Spanish! Our system is much different than in Europe - why, I don't know. Mose of Europe requires that car owners lock their cars when unattended, there is no such law in the USA.
The security system we got from Volvo doesn't do well in the USA due to the high heat we get in the summer months.
I would guess that half of the 850's no longer have key fob activators that work because of bad recievers in the car. Fortunately, the key still activates the alarm, so there is still security.
My 1998 V70 flashes the parking lights, and I know that it's system can be modified by the dealer to also sound the horn if desired. The 850's over here may not have the option to be modified.

Thanks for giving us Columbus. Europe would be too crowded if we wouldn't have been able to migrate to America.

I was under the impression that the later (97) 850's have the verification feature.
If it can be done on my 95 I would like to activate this feature.
Please post how this can be done (if it can) Thanks.

I just found out about it by reading this archived post:

It sounds like its a dealership only job. I'm going to the dealer on Friday to get a part and will ask them. I will report back when I get a definitive answer.

I guess, for people who lose their cars at the mall parking lot, horns and lights make sense. I prefer hearing just the click. My V70 flashes the parking lights once on locking, and turns the interior lights on when unlocking.

I find the 850 approach a bit too subtle. I have to listen closely for the click, and sometimes sun reflections and ambiient noise make it hard to confirm quickly it has been locked. For some reason my remotes work only when pretty darned close to the car, so maybe Volvo engineers thought I would be right next to the car when using it, making audible of visible indicators redundant. I can use my VW remote from 20 feet and tell what is going on. Of course, I like driving my Volvo better :)
