95 850 Turbo timing belt 850 1995

I have a chance on a rebuilt 1995 850 turbo 120K; rebuilt title due to a fender bender over 3 years ago, passenger side airbag did deploy, but has been replaced at the local Volvo dealership. Test drove it yesterday, and ran fine; tracked straight and true at highway speeds. Engine compartment looks good, a few tinny rattles from the back (roads around here suck), cruise control would only engage intermittently (I drive over 900 miles a week, so cruise is a must), passenger seat back (electronic) will not elevate; motor just runs, all other seat functions work just fine. Good fuel economy at highway speeds, even with A/C running.

The gray timing belt replacement sticker in the engine compartment shows it was replaced at 71K. The car has 120K on it now. Whats the average life span of the timing belt?

You have already learned with your wagon... Check all of the motor mounts. The cruise failure is probably the switch at the brake pedal, first little bump will turn it off, easy fix - lust lower the sw by bending the bracket down 1mm. If this is a dealer you are buying it from, have him replace it! Or take the replacement cost off the price and then bend the bracket!

Same headaches as your wagon, but even more fun to drive - fewer rattles.

The seat problem is probably the cable. Check Volvospeed "Bay 13" for replacement instructions. The rattle from the back could be the spring bumpers. The plastic clips break and they come loose. Sort of easy but cheap fix. The motor mount under the crank pulley is probably bad especially if it wasn't replace after the hit. Tranny is the big question. Check it out thoroughly!! Don't assume it's OK just 'cause it's a "low" mileage Volvo. AC evap and compressor hoses are probably leaking also. Major $$$$ fix.

Every 5 years or 70K miles is what I go by. I just did mine this weekend. The indy shops charge around $375 for a belt change.

I fixed a Z3 electric seat with the same problem. The threaded rod that the motor turns was stuck. A little grease and a wrench to free it did the job.
