Volvo 850 Radio Styles

Looking for the run-down on the SC series AM/FM Stereo. I have a 1993 850 (non turbo) with AM/FM/TAPE. Having problems with the front chanel. Can I replace the system with a FACTORY radio in the SC group? What is the difference in the 815, 816 etc.. The face of my system is black? Were the other models available in black? On a previous post I noticed a line about "Dealer replacement program of the SC-815" What is this about? Does anyone have a compatable radio that the are interested in selling?

Thanks for the help!

run some queries in the data bank, using the search function at the lower right. Try inputing the various model numbers: E.g., SC 815, SC 816, SC 901... The SC 815 and 815 in-unit amplification, and have tape and in-dash single CD, and will also drive external Volvo or Alpine 6-cd changers. The 900 and 901 need external amps, have some additional features, and are otherwise simlar to the 815/816 re tape, and 6-cd changer capability. However, the SC 901 ( and, I think, the SC 900) have a three-cd in-dash changer which requires a unique magazine which costs about the same as the three cds you can load into it. the 6-cd magazines for the external changers on all are apparently generic Alpine, and can be found readily on eBay.

    Hi,
Any SC radio is compatible with the mount & wiring config in your car.
The dealer replacement program is basically a "trade-in" allowance for purchasing a way over-priced unit from the dealer. Better to go with e-Bay since a lot of 850 & V70 owners have opted for MP3 players and have their old SC radios collecting dust on the work-bench. As far as I know all of the SC models were black, and the differenced in the model #'s relate to function/feature only.
FYI, these radios were all manufactured by Alpine and are basically very good units (I still use mine.)
    Good luck!
