Just did the tranny flush, now the car shudders 850

Two days ago I got my hands on a flush kit and did my '97 (54k) with 10 qts of Mobil 1. I did it 2 qts at a time - the outgoing fluid was darker then the new, but not burnt and everything went fine. The car runs beautiful. 10 qts out and 10 qts in and boy, was I a happy camper.

Now today I encountered a severe shudder in the car when I applied the brakes. Is this because the new fluid is more slippery then the old ? Should I add a conditioner to it ? I know when I had my Nissan done, the dealer added a Non Shudder additive to it and said that was standard procedure.

The shudder only happened twice, but it did shake me up a bit. Would the new ATF fluid cause a ruckus with the ABS ? I do have aftermarket rotors and pads in the car, but they've functioned perfectly.

Thanks for your help guys.

Agree...it was likely the brakes. BUT, I've also heard the "learning" computers on these cars store a lot of info and after flushing your auto tranny, it's a good idea to take the computer back to factory original setting. Disconnect your battery for about 10 minutes. Reconnect, and reset radio code and cloch and let the engine mgt system start from scratch. I've heard it's a good thing to do this once in a awhile anyway.

      Thanks guys.

On this computer thing... I was wondering IF there was a malfuction (slippage) etc in the auto tranny, would that show up in the diagnostic codes ??

This is really intriguing and I will try the resetting on the engine mgt system.

You might try disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery and leaving it off for about 15 minutes (make sure you have the radio code) to reset the ECM. Don't know if it will help but it could.

I also think it's your brakes. If it's hot out and you have been braking repeatedly (and/or heavily) it can happen. It's happened to me on both of my 850's. It will go away as the brakes cool.
If it happens frequently, do a search this board for the causes. You'll want to get it fixed.

You sure it's not the brakes although you seem to think it's the transmission? Slightly warped rotor(s) will cause this in 850's and 1st gen. 70 series car as you come to a slow stop and when they are just starting to warp, the shudder is intermittant and not all the time (at least at first).
