exhaust leak 850 1995

I have developed an exhaust leak that seems to have started as soon as i lowered my car after doing my rear brakes and calipers. oh well, just my luck!!!!! It appears that the pipe that exits the catalic converter has cracked causing an obnoxious leak that is even loud at idle. Any sugestions, can this be removed and welded? Is a new cat my only hope, if so who do you sugest for a replacement, fcp groton is around $250.00. Thanks for any advice. 1995 850 sedan normaly asperated.

Yes, it can be welded. As "ghaynes" said, you should look at the motor mounts and torque strut to see if you can find the reason for the crack. The exhaust system is well mounted, and therefor, something is probably moving around and causing mechanical stress to be applied to the piping. Also make sure that all the exhaust system hanger brackets and rubber isolators are intact. Something caused this to happen. Good luck.

    Hi,

A worn upper motor mount, aka torque bar can lead to the exhaust cracking at that seam between cat and pipe ( mine did). I had a local muffler shop weld all around for 20.00 or replace system for 1200.00. I went for the weld and that was a year ago, and replaced the motor mount.
