How do you program a keyless entry remote control? S70 1999

I purchased a keyless remote from an individual on ebay and do not know how to program it. Need some pointers.

Also need to know how to reset the service light, because I change the oil and filters. I recently purchased 2 S-70's and trying to learn the ins and outs.

S70's are totally different...trust me, I've been there. You will need a PIN number to have your remotes programmed (much like the code for your radio) and this number can be obtained from your VIN#. Then the PIN is used with VADIS system and the VT-2000 (Volvo Tool...whatever the number is) hooked into VADIS to do the programming. If a dealer tells you that the sticker is missing so nothing can be done, go to another dealer...The number on the sticker is a reference to the PIN so they don't have to look it up and so he could sell you a new remote for $$$. Just tell your dealer that your kid scraped it off if it ever comes up. DON'T let on that you bought the remote off eBay. Trust me, I've been there.

I do not think you have to go to a dealer at all to get a reote programmed.
Somewhere I have the procedure for a '98 S90, which is not much different.
I will look it up and post it.

The Service and CE light can be turned off by disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes, or so they say. It has worked for me on a '96 850. Be sure you have the radio code.

How do you program a keyless entry remote control....'99 on up Volvos S70 1999

As for a used keyless remote for any '99 on up Volvo, they need to be programmed by a dealers PC (Vadis/Vida) and if you don't have the original sticker with the required #s needed for programming, they won't be able to program it at all, it'll be useless.

I've seen it happen many times now, people bring in used Ebay remotes w/o the #s thus they bought a totally useless remote, wasted money and I don't know if they're then able to get their money back.

Unfortunately, youll have to go to the dealer for both. Or you can buy a "Service Light Reset Tool" for @ $165 or more. The Service light is really no big deal, just a reminder. Its the "Check Engine" light you have to worry about. Some folks open up the dash & take out the Service Light bulb.

No, no...NO! You don't need a reset tool for your car. Only needed on '96-'98 850 and 70 series Volvos. (By the way, don't pay the guy on eBay for this information...below is all he's going to email you for your $$)
Here's what to do:

S/C/V70/S60 1999 - Reset Procedure

The ignition switch has three positions.
I,II and III visibly marked on the ignition switch.

1. Turn the ignition switch to position one (I).

2. The only indicator light illuminated on the dash panel will be the SRS light. During the process the car is not running.

3. Gently press and hold the trip meter reset button (trip 1 must be selected). This button will go in very slightly so do not push hard. Any movement will be hard to feel. The reset button on the information switch has no role in resetting the service light.

4. This is a two handed process. Hold in the trip mileage reset knob and turn the ignition switch to position two. Within 10 to 20 seconds the service light will begin to flash. Immediately release the reset button. You have only 10 seconds to do this once the service light begins to flash.

5. Turn the ignition switch to full off. You can now start the car and the service lamp should be reset.

6. Don’t forget to perform the prescribed service as outlined in your owner’s manual!

Regards,
MIJ

No problem!
:)
Unfortunately, you will have to go to the dealer for your remote. Tell them that it came with the car but quit working. You replaced the battery but it still doesn't work and you need it reprogrammed. Maybe they won't charge you an arm and a leg. I did this with my S70 remote I bought off of eBay and the dealer charged me $25. If you tell them you bought it on eBay or elsewhere, they will. Be aware that really the remote isn't programmed at all, but the car is programmed to fit the remotes, so you will need all the remotes you own (up to 3 can be programmed at once) taken into your dealer at the same time. They will program the car to each remote, right after one another. If you leave one remote at home, then after your car gets "hitched" with the new remote, you'll find that the remote you left at home doesn't work any more. I hope I made sense here. Just take all of your remotes in with you when you have the one you bought programmed.
Good luck, and...
Regards,
MIJ
