I am considering buying a 2001 Volvo V70 T5 with 67,000 miles from a private party who bought the car at an auction and was wondering if anyone can provide advice on what to look out for.

The car has had 2 owners. From 2001 to April 2004, it was leased to 1 person in Florida. Volvo provided info about service to Carfax so I know that service was done on the cooling system, the suspension and the electrical system (no more detail than that). It was then bought by a dealer in Virginia and sold as a certified vehicle in April 2004. In March 2005, the car had the cooling fan replaced as part of a recall and the the turbo line return seals and the evap hose replaced. I'm not sure what happened but somehow the car made it from that owner to another auction in October 2005 (no idea why that owner got rid of it). My seller bought it at that auction and had a link rod replaced and the transmission fluid flushed. There is still 18 mos. on the extended warranty from the certified vehicle program.

I drove the car and it felt good. All the power equipment worked except for driver side mirror which sticks in one direction. Does a need to replace the turbo line seals suggest that the oil was not changed frequently? The car is a great price and the body is in good condition so it is very tempting to buy in spite of a poor rating in the consumer reports survey. I'm replacing a 1991 Volvo 240 with 213,000 miles. It needs minor body work and new brake pads and potentially a new rotor. If anyone is interested in buying (or knows anyone), let me know! The car is a classic but I need more room.
