More Turbo in 98 V70 XC?

We have a 96 850 Turbo which seems to have the perfect amount of on-demand turbo zing whenever needed. However, it is time to look for an early X/C or AWD V70 to contend with our winter road conditions.
I have been a bit disappointed with the performance of the X/C's Light pressure turbo (that I test drove) and I'm wondering if the engines are the same between the 850T, 850R, and the early V70GLT with the exception of some kind of chip mod or intake variances that allow for a higher output. If so, is this something that can be modified on a X/C wagon engine to bump the performance up to the 230 - 240 HP range?
