850R problem 850 1996

I have a 1996 850R which I have had for many years and 178,000 miles. It has recently started momentarily cutting out during rapid acceleration, I am sure it is the overpressure limit switch shutting down the system, the vacuum gauge goes through the white area after which it cuts out. There are no vaccuum leaks and there are no "check engine" lights on.
What controls this cutting out?, is it a part of the ecu or a separate system? and how can I fix it.
The car is absolutely standard with no wastegate modifications.
