I have a 96 850 GLT and it has a rattle that happens over bumps at low speeds. I think it is the anti-roll bar link (or also known as the sway bar link) on the front left side. It connects the anti-roll bar to the strut.
I have never worked on any part a car's suspension before and need a little guidance. When I got under the car yesterday the link was actually disconnected from the anti-sway bar. It seems part of it still connected to anti sway bar and I just slipped the link over what looks like a ball joint. I put it back on but obviously hand installing someting is not the cure.
Can I just remove the nuts with a ratchet and remove the link and either replace the entire piece or just replace the rubber bearings? Is it that simple with plain ol' hand tools or do I need something special?
Sorry for the stupid question but I this board has given me a lot of courage to try repairing things on my own that I usually would have taken to the shop.
How difficult is this to repair? I'm pretty handy but have not attempted to anything like this before on my brick. Anyone have any idea what parts I may need?
At 193k I may be looking at new shocks too. anything else I should check as well?
I greatly appreciate any and all help.
