I rotated my tires today and found the dreaded coating of grease on the inside of the rim. You mahy recall I recently had my indie change my driver's side for around $300, which at that time and place seemed ok. This time round I am thinking of DIY (since I don't plan to drive 2x,000 miles on a split boot again). I don't have an impact wrench, but I do have plenty of extensions and mallets.\
I seem to recall the DS is harder to remove from the tranny than the PS. FWIW, my indie had a 3 foot prybar and seemed to only have trouble getting the new shaft into the hub.
My question is, where does the inner end of the PS shaft terminate? Does it go all the way over to the tranny, or is that horizontal shaft I see heading 1 to 1-1/2 feet over to the tranny a separate piece (meaning the half shaft pulls out more closely to the wheel)? I know this seems like a stupid question to some, but w/o a manual and with such a small brain I need some advice. Thanks in advance, Don 854T 165K
PS I was shocked to see these brand new at FcpG for $120. Last time I checked, raxles.com had them for around $170 with core. FcpG claims they are made to more stringent standards than Volvo. Hmm....
