I received an electronic description of removing the driveshafts from Tom LeStrange (Thanks, Tom!) and I include a snipet:
"On right drive shaft, remove bearing cap from drive shaft
support bearing. Using care to avoid damage to drive shaft seal and
boot, remove drive shaft from gearbox. On left drive shaft, use Lever
(999 5462) to apply leverage between gearbox and inside of drive
shaft. Using care to avoid damage to drive shaft seal and boot, remove
drive shaft from gearbox."
I am still a little confused about the right driveshaft vs. left. At the beginning of this document (not incl here) it says the driveshafts are the same length. Is the straight "extension" (about 1 foot+) from the inner boot over to the tranny part of the driveshaft? If so, where do I pry to remove this from the tranny, or is prying not necessary on the right (I may recall hearing it comes right out). The shaft goes right into the tranny, I believe (no boot on the right side of the tranny) Is the bearing cap unique to the right side, and is it where the inner boot meets the long horizontal shaft? If anyone can point out a few details, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Don
