IPD Headlight Lense Blues 97-855

Hello Everyone,

Last month a rock took out my drivers side headlight lense. Second time in ten years. Not bad. The first time this happened my insurance paid the bill for the new Volvo headlight assembly. My deductable is now at $500 so I decided to look at alternatives to the Volvo part. Enter IPD. I have had great luck with IDP with their sway bars and rear breaklight lenses for my 745 so I looked forward to the same results with my 855. The new 855 lense from IPD was $75 and $50 for my body shop to install. I thought I had done pretty well compared to Volvo's $350+ price for the new assembly and then add installation.

Allas the new IPD lense difracts the light is such an odd way it is hard to describe. Lets just say it bifricates the bean into two segments. One goes to the left in what appears to be planned by a clear square on the lense and the rest goes forward in a much more difuse beam than before. I find it very disctracting. I have tried adjusting the aim to see if that improves things with no luck. I looked at the original lense and there is a definate diffenence in the low beam section in terms of the clear versus lined section of the lense.

I now feel like I have three options remaining to solve this issue. Find a junk yard OEM headlight assembly, buy a new assembly or try to find a pair of E-Code lenses. My concern with the E-Codes is were to find them and will they glare oncoming drivers.

Let me what you may have tried and what has worked/failed for you.

Thanks Tons

Chuck
