Sub-Frame Bushings S70 1998

Let me first say that I am finding the wealth of information on these boards to be invaluable! I've found much help in the past few weeks, just by reading back into the archives. I'm a "new" Volvo owner, so I've been posting mostly questions (not answers) thus far. But I do alot of research first, before I ask. As I attempt more projects, I intend to "assist" as well. Thanks to all who have replied to my questions.

Regarding matters of suspension, I have read every post of every thread on the S70 forum, going back to Jan '05. There is a lot on motor mount bushings, but only one mention of sub-frame bushings. Is that because there is rarely any need to replace them? I see that there is an elaborate tool required. Besides visual checks (dry rot, cracking, etc), is there a way to functionally check these for meeting Volvo spec's? What are telltale driving indications, that they need replacement? Is there a general recommended mileage for replacement?

Thanks for any assistance.
