PNP Switch fault = Turbo fault? (fingers x-ed) S70 1999

I have a few problems with my GLT S70, hopefully you guys can advise. Got the common issue with irratic idle @ 700-1000 rpms, thinking dirty throttle body. A couple of weeks ago the car wouldn't move and the red overdrive arrow was blinking along with the check engine light on. I pulled the battery cable off for 10 mins, the reboot worked and I could move the car normally. Due to the check engine light I took the car to the mech for diagnostics and came bck saying it was a faulty gear position sensor and worn shift cable. A short while after that I noticed that the Turbo didn't kick in. I have not been to the mech and want to fix this myself, if I can without breaking my back. I'm hoping that the gear shift sensor (PNP switch) and he worn cable is why the turbo doesn't kick in. I can cruise in 60 and kick-down with the acceleration of a 544, does not gear down one bit. Any idea gentlemen?
