alternator issue? or something else. 850 1994

Hi,
underneath the big red cable there is a male connector.It should be getting power for magnetizing the altenator for being able to provide power for ignition etc and for loading the battery. In my 850 this smaller red female connector was with plastic cover but same size as in your pickture.
