For a 2001 S80 2.9, Bosch 120 Amp alternator...
I think I narrowed down the noise coming from my alternator to a bad bearing. Took it apart but I now need to remove the commutator (part that the brushes ride on) from the end of the alt shaft so the rear bearing can be removed and a new one pressed on.
Does anyone know how to remove it? Is it pressed on and held in place by the bearing, or maybe screwed on? I'm pretty sure you have to remove it to remove the bearing, unless there is a special puller I don't know about.
I don't see a way of affixing a bearing puller to it without removing the commutator, as the shaft of the puller will certainly crack the plastic end of the commutator (the alt shaft is recessed about 1/4 inch deep in the plastic part).
Any help much appreciated!
FYI...thought I would pass this along...the nut on the pulley is LEFT HAND THREAD.
