New hub = drives like new 850 1995

I have been putting up with my hub growling for several months now. When it got so loud that I knew which it was, I resolved to get it fixed. The indy wanted $300-350 to do the job (I do hope he would put in Volvo part, b/c he quoted Volvo pricing for the part).

My thinking was, I have replaced an axle, so I know how to get to the spindle hanging there by the strut and tie rod end (I use the remove the control arm bolts method). Also, this side was taken apart two years ago, so the axle should come out fairly easily.

It was a wonderful experience. The control arm bolts came out like butter, and the axle nut loosened with my new breaker bar (paid for with savings on this job) and a big as$ extension. The worst part was the E14 bolts that hold the hub in - but with a 3/8 bar there was just enough torque. The inside edge where the hub seats in the spindle was corroded, so I cleaned it up with a brass wire brush.

The new hub virtually fell into its rightful place. She's back together and running silently. It is amazing how much noise I had become accustomed to. Thanks to Dick and Paul for offering advice on this procedure. As usual Bay13 had a wonderful page on this job.
