MPG - 8.40 L / 100km 850 1996

Hi all,

I would like to share my experience with this wonderful car this 96 model 850se wagon I have owned for 5 years.

WYD08 was on last weekend.
I traveled from ADELAIDE to Sydney and back via Canberra, Melbourne to Adelaide.
I have made some slight additions but nothing too extreme to the air-intake and electrical components which include an ACL coil replacement with a MSD-6A unit connected.Full syn oil 5w-40 and a foam air filter coupled to a 100mm duct to the front of the left-hand side front of vehicle.

here are some of my results
approx 33 MPG or 8.4L/100km -best results. The car was packed to the brim.
with 2 Adults(170kg)
3 children (75kg)
Luggage approx 80 -100Kg) no room left in rear wagon compartment had to remove dickie seats for more height.
tyres psi near 38 --front and rear
traveled 3529km in total which include some city driving in two cities.
313.5 L in total = 8.9l/ 100km

for HWY driving.
52.5 L 625km average speed 110km/h
conditions, good
slight tail wind.
day temp 6C

57 l - 645km
Constant Avg speed 114km/h
8.8L/100km
Conditions -rain to very heavy rain for 5.5 hours with very little wind.
temp 8C, day and night traveling.

I thought that day would've been a lot worse..
maybe the moisture attributed to the air intake helped somehow.

65.5L 755Km
Day temp 5C - 9C
Average speed 110Km/h
wind -slight from the side.
8.6l/100km
don't dare ask me for the cost of fuel as it shocked me more!
the most I paid was $1.70 a liter but on avg. $1.64
I was wondering if any one else has had the same or better mpg and would share their results , it would be helpful to me and others and maybe eye opening.

Thanks to all.
safe driving.
