In early January I hit a big pothole while in Halifax and after that there was a metallic jangling noise from the right front side of the car over any type of unevenness in the pavement. The noise is not speed, steering or braking dependant. The brakes and steering feel normal. I had it checked out there by the local Volvo dealer and they found nothing loose in the suspension, muffler or any heat shields. On return home I had it checked out again by my local guy. When the car was on lift I was under it with him and he rechecked everything again with no problems found and no guesses. As the car was lowered by the lift, the right side upper strut mount (correct term?) flexed when weight was transferred to the suspension the car was lowered to the ground. We didn't see any movement on the left side.
Before I authorize a fishing expedition by the mechanic does anyone have any ideas what the source of the noise is? Is the movement of the front shock absorber the source or is it a red-herring?
