Consumer Alert: THE KING IS DEAD! 850

I'm following Ray into front rotor territory, and so I recently placed an

order for F,R pads, F rotors, 6 oil filters. I called around. I'm in the

habit of calling Nils Sefeldt last, as they usually have had the lowest

prices (and excellent customer service). (I once told them I always call

them last, and they asked why I didn't just call them first, to save time;

well, last week I found out why!!)

Nils Sefeldt Volvo is apparently dead. I spent too long on hold waiting

for prices, and not once did I hear the words "Nils Sefeldt". Something

like 'volvo of houston' now. The parts prices have gone up significantly.

Brentwood's prices were also less enticing than in the past.

However, Roger Beasley Volvo (800-880-2101, Austin, TX) seems more

competitive than ever, and won my parts order this time. There was one

snag, however:
if you have not done business with them before, they want

to see (via fax) a copy of your driver's license and will then only ship

to that address. Apparently they've been burned somehow and are now quite

cautious about who/where they'll ship to. I spoke with a supervisor and

hammered away that requirement (finally got it waived) after convincing

him that there was nothing fishy about my order.

Front rotor = $58.44, Fpads = $39, Rpads = $24.56, $5.38/of, $12 ship to CO

seems reasonable, if not downright righteous, to me.

The king is dead. Long live the king.
