Please allow me to first extend my profound thanks and sincere appreciation to Klaus and Ken for replying to my first "Greenhorn" post, you both are owed a handshake and a cold beer for saving my sanity there! That being said, On my new to me 96 850glt, purchased with a clunking passenger door hinge and the a/c clutches locked up, I had the bright idea that I could just change out the compressor and evap and be as good as new,uh-huh, yeah-right.
Anyway, I'm now committed to the project, and have no clue where to begin and how to proceed. My basic question is has anyone else tackled this situation, and what do I need to do and/or avoid doing? Actual a/c function isnt my main concern,(it'd be nice, though) What I dont want to do is screw anything up that I cant fix. We've went from two incomes to one being split 3 ways,(ouch) so dealership repairs are trying to be avoided like the plauge. The local independant mechanics dont want to tackle it, (not a good sign) Anyone have advice they're willing to lend?, either a good source for parts or just flat out telling me what you think. Input would be, and is, appreciated, be it good-bad-or ugly. Thank You!!
