The latest round of crash test results from Europe has just been completed.
The cars tested were (all 2001 models) the BMW 3-series, CITROEN C5, FORD Mondeo, HUYNDAI Elantra, PEUGEOT 406, SKODA Octavia, VAUXHALL/OPEL Vectra and VOLVO S60.
OVERALL RATINGS:
Citroen C5------------------> 88%
Volvo S60-------------------> 82%
Ford Mondeo-----------------> 79%
Skoda Octavia/BMW 3-series--> 74%
Vauxhall/Opel Vectra--------> 71%
Huyndai Elantra-------------> 59%
Peugeot 406-----------------> 53%
All cars, with the exception of the Huyndai, Peugeot and Vauxhall/Opel received 4 stars. The exceptions received 3 stars.
BMW, Citroen and Skoda had to submit a second car to the testing because the initial cars had certain weaknesses (such as doors popping open on the side-impact crash, etc.)
On the frontal impact test, Citroen was #1 w. a score of 83%. Second, were Volvo, Skoda and BMW w/ 63%. Third place went to Ford and Vauxhall/Opel at 56%.
On the side impact test, Citroen, Volvo and Ford were first w/ a score of 100%! Second place went to BMW, Skoda and Vauxhall/Opel at 83%. Third place went to Huyndai at 78%.
