HELP-anyone with a one-button volvo remote 850 95

I have a '95 855 with a one-button volvo remote and a red LED light housing on the A-pillar

-bought used from dealer and nobody there knew how to operate the 3 different alarm modes (I,II,III) indicated on LED housing (black-triangular)

now car won't unlock with remote, will only arm remote, without a horn notice one/two beeps, but horn does go off when armed

-key in driver/passenger/rear hatch door operates all doors correctly

-car was a special delivery for US use

any help is greatly appreciated
