Rubber like Turbo Blower Duct hose problem V70-XC70 1999

Hello All,

This past weekend I did a complete engine inspection along with a tune-up on my 1999 V70 XC. I discovered that the rubber like hose that channel air from the turbo unit to the engine could not handle the engine heat. The section of hose I am talking about is the hose that connects directly to the turbo unit. This hose is about 4 inches long and is a dark gray color. The part of the hose in question is the side that is facing the engine.

In my case the 2 clamps that are used to secure the hose to the turbo and the metal pipe needed tightening (clamps were a little lose). I noticed this due to excessive oil on the outside of the turbo unit itself. I decided to remove the gray rubber hose and clean the oil off all components (turbo and hose) and re-install.

A closer inspection of the hose showed that the side of the hose facing the engine had turned a dark brown and had become hard (i.e. a total lack of Flexibility). I assume if I left the hose as is that over time the hose could get totally hard and crack. Thus causing turbo air to leak out and causing the engine not to operate correctly.

I am recommending that an inspection be done on this hose and replace if necessary.

Good Luck,

Steven---
