During the past four months I was debating between a Used Audi A4 Sedan and the 850 Turbo wagon. After many test drives and reading a few articles I purchased a 94 Turbo wagon with 73K on it. After purchasing it from a used importer Audi / Volvo lot the check engine light went on. The owners book claimed that it would most likely be a emission issue. This was not so. I took it into a Volvo dealer because the lot I purchased it from did not have the tools to read the the system check. It turned out to be a knock sensor malfunction so I had it replaced. While I had this replaced I also had them replace the timing belts and other little things that should be replaced with a car with 73k on it. They replaced a couple of seals that where leaking a little oil and did the once over for Winter.
Well after two visits, first being the 70K maintenance, belts, oil seals and second being replacing the knock sensor and Winter maintenance, It cost me a little over 400.00.
Now the bad news. The light came back on and I took it back in the day after I had it serviced. They had to call the Volvo Tech Hotline to find the problem. They suggested a new ECM. The cel found 433 M4.3 (whatever that means)
$875.00 is a ton of money for a part. I already paid 14,800 for the car and all the other work I did to it. I like the car but I can't afford to pay another 875.00 this soon.
The car seems to run fine and idel smooth. How serious is this?
Oh ya I also need to replace my Rad sometime soon as it has a small ocasional leak. Another 350.00
