Does cruise control eat up more gas? C70 1998

Hi folks,

A little question... I was wondering if cruise control uses up more fuel than driving without it on. I noticed that on my last two tanks, the first one I used cruise control and the last one without (same speed), and I noticed without using cc gives me better gas mileage. Is this an obvious answer or is there something more to it? Thanks.
