96 855 N/A
Base model that did not originally come with remote door locking.
Found a N/A 96 850 in a local junkyard and pulled the receiver and all of the relays that looked like they had anything to do with the doors or an alarm system from the relay panel inside the car (I did not pull any relays associated with the under-hood relay panel). Also pulled the under-hood siren, the center-dash LED and the driver's side hood latch (which has a switch in it that non-alarmed cars do not have).
Installed the receiver, siren, LED and hood latch in my car. Turns out that all of the relays I had pulled were identical part numbers to the relays already in my car, so I left the originals in-place.
Bought a transmitter, programmed it, and the LED flashes under certain circumstances (not sure when it should be flashing, but it does work) and the door remote functionality works great.
I feel like I've stepped out of the automotive stone ages into the 19th century.
Anyway, my question has to do with the burglar alarm side of the system. My owners' manual says virtually nothing about it and the Volvo repair sheets on the Web only describe troubleshooting the system, but not how the system functions.
Does anyone have anything on how the system functions?
When you lock the system with the remote, is anything supposed to chirp, or lights flash, like modern alarm systems do?
Under what conditions should the siren go off?
I've locked all the doors with the remote and opened a door through an open window, and nothing happens.
Any ideas?
