Like, I wonder why...
I just found out that my 1998 alarm will go off when I open the hood with the car locked and armed. LOL, I always thought the horn was dead! Then it wouldn't turn off until I put the key in the ignition to pos II.
Opening the door via the inside handle didn't do anything except turn the alarm off. My 1995 850 would trip the alarm.
The light is supposed to slowly flash when the car is locked. A quick flash means that the alarm has gone off since the alarm had been set.
My parking lights (flashers) go off when I lock the car, for about 3 blinks but no horn, thank goodness. That is a programming thing that 1996+ owners can no longer do.
So, I guess if someone wanted to break the window, open the door, then pop the hood, they can do whatever they want. The flashing light is really to tell police in Europe that the car is locked, otherwise the owner gets a ticket for not locking the car.
