Clicking sound when engine is on. 850 1997

I was driving home today in my '97 850 R when I gunned it from a stop sign. It was a nice long stretch with no people around... After I gunned it and let go of the accelerator, I noticed a clicking noise . It kinda sounded like there was something stuck to the belt but I checked that and everything seems normal. The clicking gets faster as the RPMs get higher so I guess it has to do with the engine itself. Anyone have any ideas??
